Wildlife Without Pictures... 🦌🐻🦨

Sometimes the best wildlife encounters happen so fast there's no time for a camera.

Our day started by watching a baby deer faithfully follow its mother across the Park Loop Road in Acadia National Park.

Later, while riding our bikes around Eagle Lake, we both caught the strong smell of a horse or cow. That seemed odd since we were deep in the woods. About 25 yards farther up the trail, we discovered the source—a very large pile of fresh bear scat right in the side of the bike path. Mystery solved! We were definitely sharing the trail with a bear.

To top off the day's wildlife adventures, we were relaxing by the campfire at our campsite overlooking Cadillac Mountain in Acadia, Maine, enjoying an adult beverage after dark. Out of nowhere, I felt something brush under my chair. I looked down, expecting to see someone's cat wandering through the campground.

Nope.

It was a skunk!

Luckily, neither of us panicked. The skunk seemed just as surprised as I was, casually continued on its way, and—most importantly—didn't spray me.

Not a single wildlife photo to share today, but sometimes the best memories are the ones you simply get to experience.
