Hanging Out in Massachusetts

While spending some time in Massachusetts, we managed to check a few projects off the list.

The Jeep needed a new set of shoes. After a lot of research, I decided to step up from 33-inch tires to 35-inch tires. That meant a few supporting upgrades as well, including a new rear door hinge and spare tire carrier to handle the extra weight. I also picked up a diagnostic scan and programming tool to update the Jeep's computer with the new tire size, bringing the speedometer and odometer back into calibration.

On the RV side, I spent some time troubleshooting the Aqua-Hot system and tracked down the problem to failed high-temperature shunts on the electric heating elements. A new pair is on order, and I'll install them when we're back in Massachusetts in July.

Another upgrade was installing the Blu Tech Waterstop. It's a clever device that automatically shuts off the water supply after 45 gallons have flowed unattended, helping prevent those dreaded "forgot to turn the water off" moments. The companion phone app tracks water usage, monitors filter and water softener life, and even watches for small leaks, sending alerts if it detects something out of the ordinary. So far, I'm really impressed with it.

Of course, it wasn't all projects. Both the humans and the dogs squeezed in a few doctor appointments while we were home.

Then it was time to hit the road again so Benny could compete in a few conformation shows. We headed to Doswell, Virginia, where the shows were held in a wonderful indoor, air-conditioned venue—a welcome change from summer heat. Benny continues to enjoy working with his handler, Michelle Scott, who always seems to bring out his very best in the ring.

More Road Miles Ahead

Our travels continue from Virginia as we head north to Narrows Too in Maine to celebrate the Fourth of July. We're looking forward to seeing friends, enjoying the coast, and, of course, catching up on some long-overdue lobster dinners.

Also, while in Maine, Sydney will spend a little time visiting her breeder and our friends, the Burbridges, before we make our way back to Massachusetts for a few weeks. We may even squeeze in another Benny show or two before we head out west again for a couple of months. As always, our plans are flexible—that's one of the best parts of life on the road.
